Tihar prison has announced the facility where women can acquire fashion designing lessons in a well equipped ‘Fashion Lab’ that will offer a three-month certificate course enabling them to look for a career in the industry after coming out of jail.
The facility, a collaborative initiative between Tihar administration and Pearl Academy was inaugurated at Jail number 6 (women’s jail) of Tihar prison complex.
“It is a unique initiative to promote skill development among inmates. It will help the women inmates to learn life sustaining skills and will provide them with great opportunities to earn a livelihood after being released from prison.”

The course will last for 45 days. It will be divided into three core modules, said a Pearl Academy spokesperson.The academy, a leading institution for design, fashion and creative business, will conduct 3 such courses in one academic year and each batch will comprise 22 inmates.
The inmates who will complete the course will also be helped in placements.This is one of a kind initiative which will help the women inmates of Tihar jail to build a new life after prison.The Fashion Lab is equipped with all the facilities and machinery needed for learning basics of design and construction skills. It is a noble initiative to contribute to the society by empowering these women to help them rebuild their lives.
