Stephen Hawking Says, It’s High Time Now, Warns That We Humans Have Just 100 Years Left to Move to Another Planet.
The Famous Cosmologist and Theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking has already stated that humans need to colonize a new planet soon — and now he’s stressing that we need to start within 100 years to keep the human species alive.
In a new BBC documentary called “Stephen Hawking: Expedition New Earth” set to air later this year, the physicist will “present his predictions that the human race has only 100 years before we need to colonize another planet,” said a press release earlier this week.
“With climate change, overdue asteroid strikes, epidemics and population growth, our own planet is increasingly precarious.”
The famous professor has issued a number of warnings about the future over the past few years. Earlier, Hawking theorized that humans probably have around 1,000 years left, before they become extinct. Now his timeline seems to have shortened.
In the beginning of 2016, Hawking has also warned about the dangers of nuclear war, global warming, genetically-engineered viruses and artificial intelligence (AI).
Hawking told BBC in an interview that, “Although the chance of a disaster to planet Earth in a given year may be quite low, it adds up over time, and becomes a near certainty in the next thousand or ten thousand years,”.
“By that time we should have spread out into space, and to other stars, so a disaster on Earth would not mean the end of the human race,” he added. “However, we will not establish self-sustaining colonies in space for at least the next hundred years, so we have to be very careful in this period,” he said.
Not just Hawking, earlier billionaire Elon Musk said humans must somehow merge with machines or risk becoming irrelevant in the age of AI. The Tesla and SpaceX founder is working on a company called Neuralink to do just that.
